About the Transition Planning Committee

What is transition?

For all young people, the transition from student life in school to adult life in the community is complicated. For students with disabilities and their families, this change can be particularly challenging, overwhelming and exciting. For young people to experience transitions to satisfying adult lives there must be teamwork among students, parents, educators and others.

What is a Transition Planning Committee?

The Transition Planning Committee (TPC) is the middle point between individual students’ IEP teams and the state-level Interagency Coordinating Council. It serves to improve local transition planning and services and it acts as a conduit for information between the state and local level.

What does a TPC do?

Identify current transition services

Facilitate development of IEP interagency plan teams

Provide for exchange of information

Develop information and special events for student, family and school staff

File Annual report
